It’s hard for me to put into words how grateful am to this doctor. He saved my life twice! Once in 2022 when I almost blead out from a botched tumor removal surgery with a different surgeon. My artery was nicked and Dr. Yim was called in. He worked his magic and stopped the bleeding and literally saved my life. It was at that time I made the decision that if I ever were to atempt this surgery again again, it would have to be Dr. Yim that to do it.
I waited a year and a half to attempt surgery again. I was still healing from the first one and needed to pick a date for the new surgery. In the meantime I kept up with my appointments with Dr. Yim, Did my MRI’s and such. But I’ll tell you another thing that sold me on him (besides him saving my life before) was his compassion.
Each doctor visit I had with him we spent a good 30-45 minutes talking. Going over diagrams, pictures of my MRI’s, and what his approach would be. He answered ALL of my questions and I never once felt rushed. He told me like it was. Which I appreciate. He used regular verbiage with me that I could understand, not doctor lingo. He put it all out there on the table table, The Good, The Bad, All of it. And I felt like I had options. Like for instance, what if I did not want to try this difficult surgery again? How much time do I have? What changes can I expect to happen to my body and my mind? He told me everything. It was actually refreshing to have a doctor sit down and spend that much time with you not even knowing if your going to choose to do the surgery again. I did choose to do the surgery. The bad was just too much for me to handle. And I wanted to have to best chance to live and spend more time with my family. So I chose a date March 13, 2024.
March 13th came and we met Dr. Yim at the hospital and prepared for surgery. I was confident in him and I knew it was right this time deep in my gut. I wish I would have trusted my intuition last time because I would have switched over to Dr. Yim then. My Surgery lasted something crazy like 12 hours. Can you imagine that? This man stood on his feet taking very few breaks to save my life yet again, for 12 hours! I’m just in awe of him. He is my hero for sure. And once the surgery was over he was there. He came to check on me sometimes twice a day the whole 3 weeks I was in the hospital.
I know some people might think that’s his job, etc etc. But you have to understand the tumor I had was skull based in between my spinal cord and my brain stem. And it was compressing them both, moving them from the position they are suposed to be over to the right and pretty much smashing them. So that’s what he was faced with. What a mess right? It’s actually a very rare location and meningiomas don’t typically grow there. That’s what made my case rare.
I am now home its now May18th, so a few months since I had surgery and I’m alive! Life is good. He gave me what I asked for which was more time with my family. If you are ever faced with any thing similar, or any kid of brain tumor, trust me I’m living proof you will be in good hands with Dr. Yim. As far as I’m concerned he deserves some kind of recognition for his stellar work performance, his bravery in conquering such a difficult surgery, His absolute kindness, care and concern for his patients and his creativity for finding solutions for difficult problems.
Dr. Yim is the best. And you’ll be in the best hands if you choose him. I highly recommend him.

If you are unfortunate enough to need a neurosurgeon, meeting with Dr. Yim will make you feel lucky. He is confident, he thinks outside the box, and you can trust that he will provide the least intervention with the best results. After bleak meetings with three other surgeons, Dr. Yim was the first to actually listen to my concerns, provide an option that felt palatable and work with me to provide guidelines for my recovery that felt manageable. In addition to his obvious skill and expertise, he has a quality that can feel elusive with many surgeons: bedside manner. He is kind, patient and good-humoured. He doesn’t sugar coat things, but will speak in a straight-forward and compassionate manner. I highly recommend him.
